Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) Indicator (for diesel engine vehicles)

If there is a malfunction in the engine control system, a symbol appears on the multi-information display, possibly accompanied by the message "CHECK SYSTEM".
Continuing to drive the vehicle under these conditions may result in serious damage.
If this symbol appears, with or without a warning message, stop in a safe place and turn off the engine. Restart and stop the engine at least three times at intervals of approximately 30 seconds, then check the multi-information display. If the symbol does not go off the display, have the vehicle checked by a dealer service station as soon as possible. Until the malfunction is corrected, drive the vehicle at moderate speed. Do not drive at high speed or press the accelerator pedal fully.
If the "PGM-FI" symbol frequently appears on the multi-information display, have the vehicle checked by a dealer service station, even if it goes off the display after performing the procedure described above.
Continuing to drive with the "PGM-FI" indicator displayed may cause damage to the emissions control system and the engine. Such malfunctions are not covered by the warranty.
This indicator will also appear on the multi-information display, and may be accompanied by a warning message. You will not be able to start the engine after the fuel tank has run completely empty. In this case, refuel the fuel tank before starting the engine and refer to the procedure described in "Filling the Fuel System with Fuel" on page 501.
This indicator, with or without a warning message, may also appear if fuel that is not suitable for your climate is used. This may result in reduced engine power.
