Inspection of Clutch Release Bearing

~1min read

The clutch release bearing is sealed and must not be washed.

PROCEDURE

1. Check the condition of the clutch release bearing. It must rotate smoothly, evenly, and quietly, with no play. The bearing surface contacting the diaphragm spring must be smooth, without cracks, local corrosion, or wear.
2. A faulty clutch release bearing can be identified without removing it from the vehicle. With the engine running, depress the clutch pedal. If additional noise occurs when the clutch pedal is depressed, the clutch release bearing is faulty and must be replaced.
