Transmission Repair

~1min read

The transmission is a very complex assembly, and its repair must be performed at a specialized workshop. Also, when removing and installing many parts, it is necessary to measure clearances and, if necessary, adjust them, which requires the use of appropriate adjusting shims and washers. Moreover, transmission parts are not sold separately and must be ordered, and they are also extremely expensive.

If the transmission is faulty or operating with excessive noise, it is advisable to have the transmission repaired by a specialist or to replace the transmission, which may cost significantly less.

However, some transmission faults can be corrected without removing the transmission from the vehicle. Even so, despite all the difficulties, an experienced technician can repair the transmission at home. In this case, it is necessary to have special tools and to perform the work sequentially, step by step, noting completed operations. When repairing the transmission, use special snap ring pliers, bearing pullers, a slide hammer, a set of punches, a micrometer, and a hydraulic press.

Before removing the transmission, determine the fault as accurately as possible, which will greatly simplify the repair.
