Transmission Removal and Installation

Manual Transmission

1 – bolt, 27–34 N·m;
2 – speedometer cable;
3 – clutch housing cover;
4 – bolt, 8–10 N·m;
5 – shift select cable;
6 – shift cable;
7 – starter motor.

Removal

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable. Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid from the transmission into a suitable container.
2. Remove the clutch release cylinder.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing.
4. Remove the battery and battery bracket.

5. Remove the shift select and shift cables.
6. Disconnect the backup light switch connector.
7. Remove the speedometer drive cable.
8. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube and plug the end of the tube with a suitable cap.

9. Remove the engine-side cover and the transmission side cover.
10. Remove the front and rear brackets.
11. Remove the right front wheel.
12. Remove the bolt securing the front strut ball joint.
13. Insert a pry bar between the inner CV joint of the drive shaft and the transmission, and lightly tap the pry bar to remove the drive shaft from the transmission.

14. Remove the starter motor.
15. Using special tool 09400–29000, support the engine so that its weight is carried by the tool.
16. Remove the left transmission bracket.
17. Remove the upper transmission mounting bolts.

18. Remove the clutch housing cover.
19. Support the transmission with a jack.
20. Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts.
21. Remove the clutch cover and clutch disc.

22. Remove the flywheel.

Installation

PROCEDURE

Install the transmission in the reverse order of removal.
