Cruise Control Operation
ESC On Condition
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicators will illuminate for approximately three seconds. After both lights turn off, ESC is on.
During Operation

When ESC is operating, the ESC indicator flashes:
- When you apply the brake under conditions that may lock the wheels, you may hear brake noise or feel a pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your ESC is active.
- When ESC is operating, the engine may not respond to the accelerator pedal. This is normal under these conditions.
- If cruise control was in use when ESC was activated, cruise control will automatically cancel. Cruise control can be turned on again when road conditions allow. See "Cruise Control System" later in this chapter. (if equipped)
- When driving out of mud or on a slippery road, engine speed (RPM) may not increase even when the accelerator pedal is pressed deeply. This is necessary to maintain vehicle stability and traction and does not indicate a problem.
ESC OFF Condition
To cancel ESC operation:
• Condition 1
Briefly press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator and message (if equipped with a cluster display) will illuminate. In this state, the ESC traction control function (engine control) is disabled, but the ESC brake control function (brake control) still operates.
• Condition 2
Press and hold the ESC OFF button for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator and message (if equipped with a cluster display) will illuminate and a warning chime will sound. In this state, both the ESC traction control function (engine control) and the ESC brake control function (brake control) are disabled. If the ignition switch is in the LOCK/OFF position when ESC is off, ESC remains off. After restarting the engine, ESC will automatically turn on again.
