FCA Warning Message and Brake Control

~2min read

FCA issues warning messages, alerts, and emergency braking based on the forward collision risk level, for example, when the vehicle ahead brakes suddenly or when the system detects that a collision with a pedestrian is unavoidable.

This warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning sound. In addition, the engine control system intervenes in some vehicle systems to help slow the vehicle.

- The speed of your vehicle may decrease slightly.
- The FCA system limitedly controls the brakes to proactively reduce the impact of a collision.
- If you select Warning Only, the FCA system is activated and only issues warning signals according to the collision risk levels. You must control the brakes directly because the FCA system does not control the brakes.

This warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning sound.

In addition, the engine control system intervenes in some vehicle systems to help slow the vehicle.

- The FCA system limitedly controls the brakes to proactively reduce the impact of a collision. Brake control becomes maximum before a collision.
- If you select Warning Only, the FCA system is activated and only issues warning signals according to the collision risk levels. You must control the brakes directly because the FCA system does not control the brakes.

Brake Operation

  • In an emergency situation, the brake system enters a standby state to respond quickly when the driver presses the brake pedal.
  • FCA provides additional braking force for optimal braking efficiency when the driver presses the brake pedal.
  • Brake control is automatically canceled when the driver rapidly presses the accelerator pedal, or when the driver sharply turns the steering wheel.
  • FCA brake control is automatically canceled when the risk factors disappear.

CAUTION

  • The driver must always exercise extreme caution when driving, whether or not there is a warning message or alarm from the FCA system.
  • After braking control is activated, the driver must immediately press the brake pedal and look around. Braking activation by the system lasts approximately 2 seconds.
  • If another warning sound, such as the unbuckled seat belt chime, has already sounded, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) warning may not sound.
  • Playing the audio system at high volume may prevent passengers from hearing the system's audible warnings.

WARNING

The FCA brake control cannot completely stop the vehicle or avoid all collisions. The driver is responsible for safe driving and controlling the vehicle.

WARNING

FCA system logic operates within certain parameters, such as the distance to the vehicle or pedestrian ahead, the speed of the vehicle ahead, and your vehicle speed. Certain conditions, such as severe weather and road conditions, may affect FCA system operation.

WARNING

Never drive with a dangerous intent to activate the system.
