Active Air Flap (AAF) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The AAF (Active Air Flap) is located between the radiator grille and the radiator and consists of an actuator and 6 air flaps. The system receives information from the EMS, FATC, TCU, MCU and LDC via CAN communication. Based on this information, the AAF controls the air flaps, which regulate the airflow from the radiator grille. During high-speed driving, this reduces air resistance by closing the air flaps. This improves fuel efficiency and increases driving stability. If the engine overheats, the system opens the air flaps to lower the temperature. During air conditioner operation, the system opens the air flaps to maintain refrigerant pressure. When the engine is cold-started, the system closes the air flaps to warm up the engine quickly.
