Brake Booster Operational Test
To perform a simple check of brake booster operation, carry out the following inspections.- Start the engine for one or two minutes, then stop it. Depress the pedal several times; if the pedal stroke gradually decreases smoothly, the brake booster is operating normally. If there is no change, the booster is faulty.

- With the engine stopped, depress the brake pedal several times. Then depress the brake pedal and start the engine. If the pedal moves down slightly, the booster is in good condition. If there is no change, the booster is not operating.

- With the engine running, depress the brake pedal, then stop the engine. Hold the pedal depressed for 30 seconds. If the pedal height does not change, the booster is in good condition; if the pedal rises, the booster is not operating. If all three tests above are good, booster performance may be judged as good. Even if one of the three tests above is not in good condition, inspect the check valve, vacuum hose and booster for malfunction.

Removal
Brake booster- Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Disconnect the ECM connector (A) and the TCM connector (B), IDB (C), then remove the noise insulator (D).

- Remove the upper cover of the cover. (Refer to Cover - Upper Cover)
- Remove the ECM, TCM and IDB.
- Remove the clamp (A) and the vacuum brake hose (B).

- Remove the clip (A), then disconnect the brake fluid level sensor connector (B).

- Remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using a syringe.
Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle, as it may damage the paint. If brake fluid gets on the paint, wash it off immediately with water.
- Loosen the hose connecting bolt (A) and disconnect the brake tube.
Tightening torque: 29.4 ~ 34 N·m

Do NOT reuse the gaskets. Be sure to install new ones. Reusing a gasket may cause brake system failure or accidents due to oil leakage. Tighten to the specified torque using a torque wrench. Do not use an air ratchet or power tools.
- Remove the master cylinder (B) from the brake booster after first loosening the mounting nuts (A).
Tightening Torque: 12.8 ~ 16.7 N·m

- Remove the lock pin (A) and the flat head pin (B).

- Remove the mounting nuts.
Tightening torque: 16.7 ~ 26 N·m

- Remove the brake booster.
Inspection
- Inspect the vacuum hose.
Do not disconnect the vacuum booster from the vacuum hose.
- Check the boot for damage.
Installation
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Before installing the pin, apply grease to the clevis pin.
- When installing, use a new stopper pin and washer.
- After installation, bleed the brake system. (Refer to Brake System - Brake System Bleeding)
