Foot-Operated Parking Brake

~2min read

Always set the parking brake before leaving the vehicle. To apply:

Firmly depress the brake pedal.

Press the parking brake pedal down as far as it will go.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, do not use the parking brake while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This could damage the brake system and cause an accident.

To release:

Firmly depress the brake pedal.

Press the parking brake pedal down, and it will release automatically.

If the parking brake does not release or does not fully release, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • Each time you leave the vehicle or park, always come to a complete stop and continue to press the brake pedal. Move the shift lever to P (Park), then apply the parking brake and set the Engine Start/Stop button to OFF. A vehicle with the parking brake not fully applied is at risk of unintended movement and causing harm to yourself or others.
  • NEVER allow anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the parking brake. If the parking brake is released unintentionally, serious injury may occur.
  • Release the parking brake only when you are seated inside the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.

CAUTION

  • Do not apply the accelerator pedal while the parking brake is engaged. If you press the accelerator pedal with the parking brake applied, a warning will sound. Damage may result from operating with the parking brake engaged.
  • Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake components. Make sure the parking brake is released and the brake warning light is off before driving.

To check the parking brake warning light, place the Engine Start/Stop button in the ON position (do not start the engine).

This indicator illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the Engine Start/Stop button in START or ON.

Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the brake warning light is off.

If the parking brake warning light remains on after the parking brake is released with the engine running, there may be a malfunction in the brake system. Immediate attention is required.

If possible, stop driving the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, use extreme caution while driving and continue only until you can reach a safe location.
