Bleeding the Fuel System

The fuel system must be bled to remove air, as shown in the illustration, if the fuel supply runs out during driving, when the fuel filter has been replaced, or if the vehicle has not been used for a long period.

1. Loosen the air bleed plug on the top of the fuel filter.

2. Operate the hand priming pump until bubbles no longer appear in the fuel coming out of the air bleed plug. While doing this, place a cloth around the air bleed plug to prevent excessive fuel spillage.

3. Tighten the air bleed plug when no more bubbles appear in the fuel.

4. Continue pumping until the hand priming pump becomes firm (resistance is felt).

5. Finally, check for fuel leaks. If in doubt, consult the nearest authorized Hyundai dealer.

CAUTION:

1. Do not smoke or bring an open flame near the vehicle while bleeding the fuel system.

2. Be sure to thoroughly wipe up any fuel spilled on nearby parts, as such deposits may ignite and cause a fire.
