- Keep the terminals and connections clean, tight and covered with petroleum jelly or grease.

- Immediately flush any spilled electrolyte from the battery with a solution of water and baking soda.

- If the vehicle will not be used for a long period, disconnect the battery cables.

NOTE

The standard battery is maintenance-free. If the vehicle is equipped with a battery marked LOWER and UPPER on the side, the electrolyte level can be checked.

The electrolyte level must be between LOWER and UPPER. If the electrolyte level is low, add distilled (demineralized) water (never add sulfuric acid or other electrolytes). When topping up, take care not to spill on the battery or nearby components.

And do not overfill the battery cells.

It may corrode other components.

Afterwards, make sure to tighten the cell caps. It is recommended to contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING - Battery Hazards Always read the following instructions carefully when handling a battery. Keep cigarettes, open flames and sparks away from the battery. Hydrogen, a highly flammable gas, is always present in battery cells and may explode if ignited. Keep batteries out of reach of children, as they contain SULFURIC ACID, which is highly corrosive. Do not let battery acid contact skin, eyes, clothing or paint. If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush the eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. If electrolyte gets on the skin, wash the affected area immediately. If pain or a burning sensation occurs, seek medical attention immediately. Wear eye protection when charging or working near a battery. Always provide adequate ventilation when working in enclosed spaces.
