Explanation of maintenance items
Engine oil and filter
The engine oil and filter (including the drain plug gasket) must be replaced at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is driven under severe conditions, the oil and filter must be replaced more frequently.
Drive belts
Inspect all drive belts for cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation, and replace if necessary. Drive belt tension must be checked periodically and adjusted as needed.
Fuel filter (cartridge)
A clogged filter can limit the vehicle's driving speed, damage the emission system and cause various problems, such as hard starting. If an excessive amount of foreign material accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may need to be replaced more often.
After installing a new filter, run the engine for several minutes and check the connections for leaks. It is recommended that the fuel filter be replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Fuel lines, connections and hoses
Check the fuel lines, connections and hoses for leaks and damage.
It is recommended that fuel lines, fuel hoses and fittings be replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Evaporative emission lines and fuel filler cap
These items must be inspected at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Make sure new items are installed correctly.
Crankcase ventilation hoses (if equipped)
Inspect the surface of the hoses for mechanical and/or heat damage. Hardened or brittle rubber, cracks, tears, cuts, abrasions and excessive swelling are signs of deterioration. Pay particular attention to surfaces closest to high-heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to make sure the hoses do not contact heat sources, sharp edges or moving parts that could cause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect hose components, such as clamps and joints, to make sure they are secure and not leaking. Hoses must be replaced immediately if there are signs of deterioration or damage.
Air filter
When replacing the air filter, it is recommended to use an original HYUNDAI replacement part.
Spark plugs (for gasoline engines)
Make sure to install new spark plugs of the correct heat range.
Valve clearance (if equipped)
Check for excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. It is recommended that the system be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Cooling system
Check the cooling system components, such as the radiator, reservoir, hoses and connections, for leaks and damage. Replace damaged parts.
Coolant
The coolant must be replaced at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule.
Manual transmission fluid (if equipped)
Inspect the manual transmission fluid according to the maintenance schedule.
Automatic transmission fluid (if equipped)
The fluid level must be within the "HOT" range on the dipstick after the engine and transmission have reached normal operating temperature. Check the automatic transmission fluid level with the engine running and the transmission in P or N, with the parking brake properly applied.
Brake hoses and lines
Visually check for correct installation and for wear, cracks, deterioration and leaks. Replace any damaged or deteriorated parts immediately.
Brake fluid
Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. The level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid that meets DOT 3 or DOT 4 specification.
Parking brake
Inspect the parking brake system, including the brake pedal and cables.
Rear drum brakes and linings (if equipped)
Check the drum brakes and linings for scoring, fluid leaks, broken parts and excessive wear.
Brake pads, calipers and discs
Check for excessive pad wear, disc wear and scoring, and fluid leaks at the calipers.
For more information on checking pads or the lining wear limit, refer to the Hyundai website.

Suspension mounting bolts
Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage.
Retighten to the specified torque.
Steering gear, linkage and lower arm ball joint/bushing boots
With the vehicle stationary and the engine off, check for excessive play in the steering.
Check the linkage for bending or damage. Check whether the rubber boots and bushings are deteriorated, cracked or damaged. Replace damaged parts.
Driveshaft and boots
Check the driveshafts, boots and clamps for cracks, deterioration or damage. Replace damaged parts and, if necessary, regrease with the specified grease.
Air conditioning refrigerant (if equipped)
Check the air conditioner hoses, connections and lines for leaks and damage.
