Evaporative Emission Control System

~1min read

This system prevents fuel vapors from being released into the atmosphere.

Canister

Fuel vapors generated inside the fuel tank are absorbed and stored in the canister. When the engine is running, the stored vapors are drawn into the intake manifold through the purge control solenoid valve.

Purge Control Solenoid Valve (PCSV)

The valve is controlled by the engine control module (ECM). When the coolant temperature is low at idle, the valve closes so that evaporated fuel is not drawn into the engine. When the engine warms up during normal driving, the valve opens to draw evaporated fuel into the engine.
