The drive mode can be selected according to the driver's preference or road conditions.

The system resets to NORMAL mode (except when in ECO mode) when the engine is restarted.

Information

If there is a problem with the instrument cluster, the drive mode will be in NORMAL mode and cannot be changed to SPORT mode.

The mode changes as shown below each time the DRIVE MODE button is pressed.

When NORMAL mode is selected, no indicator is displayed on the instrument cluster.

ECO Mode (if equipped)

When the drive mode is set to ECO mode, the control logic of the engine and transmission is changed for maximum fuel efficiency.

  • When ECO mode is selected by pressing the DRIVE MODE button, the ECO indicator light will illuminate.
  • If the vehicle is in ECO mode when the engine is turned off and restarted, the drive mode setting will remain in ECO mode.

Information

Fuel efficiency depends on driving habits, driving style and road conditions.

When ECO mode is activated:

  • The response to acceleration may be slightly reduced as the accelerator pedal is pressed moderately.
  • Air conditioner performance may be limited.
  • The automatic transmission shift pattern may change.
  • Engine noise may become louder.

The above situations are normal conditions when ECO mode is activated to improve fuel efficiency.

ECO Mode Operation Limitation:

If the following conditions occur while ECO mode is operating, system operation is limited even though the ECO indicator does not change.

  • When the coolant temperature is low: The system will be limited until engine operation returns to normal.
  • When driving uphill: The system will be limited in obtaining power when driving uphill because engine torque is limited.
  • When driving a vehicle with an automatic transmission or dual clutch transmission, with the shift lever in manual shift mode: The system will be limited due to the shift position.
  • When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed for several seconds: The system will be limited, as it judges that the driver wants to accelerate.

SPORT Mode

SPORT mode improves driving dynamics by automatically adjusting steering effort, engine and transmission control logic for enhanced driving performance.

  • When SPORT mode is selected by pressing the DRIVE MODE button, the SPORT indicator light will illuminate.
  • Whenever the engine is restarted, the drive mode will return to NORMAL mode. If SPORT mode is required, select SPORT mode again using the DRIVE MODE button.
  • When SPORT mode is activated:
    - Engine speed tends to remain elevated for a certain period of time even after the accelerator pedal is released
    - Upshifts are delayed during acceleration

Information

In SPORT mode, fuel economy may decrease.
