Driving Your Vehicle

Proper Braking Practice

~1min read

WARNING

Whenever leaving the vehicle or parking, always come to a complete stop and continue to press the brake pedal. Move the shift lever to P (Park), then apply the parking brake and place the ignition key in the LOCK/OFF position.

Vehicles parked with the parking brake not applied or not fully engaged may roll unintentionally and may cause injury to the driver and others. ALWAYS apply the parking brake before exiting the vehicle.

Wet brakes can be dangerous! Brakes may become wet when the vehicle drives through standing water or when it is washed. Your vehicle will not stop as quickly when the brakes are wet. Wet brakes may cause the vehicle to pull to one side.

To dry the brakes, lightly apply the brakes until braking performance returns to normal, while maintaining control of the vehicle at all times. If braking performance does not return to normal, stop as soon as it is safe to do so, and we recommend that you seek assistance from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

DO NOT drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, wear prematurely, and possibly even fail.

If a tire goes flat while driving, gently apply the brake and keep the vehicle pointed straight ahead while slowing down. When you are moving slowly enough to do so safely, leave the road and stop in a safe location.

Firmly depress the brake pedal when the vehicle is stopped to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward.
