Driving Your Vehicle

VSM Operation

~1min read

VSM Operating Status

VSM operates when:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is turned on.
  • Vehicle speed is above approximately 15 km/h on curved roads.
  • The vehicle speed is approximately above 20 km/h when braking on an uneven road.

During Operation

When you depress the brake pedal under conditions that may activate ESC, you may hear a brake noise or feel a corresponding pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and indicates that your VSM is active.

Information

VSM does not operate when:

  • Driving on a road with a slope, such as an incline or decline.
  • Driving in reverse.
  • The ESC OFF indicator light comes on.
  • EPS (Electric Power Steering) warning light () comes on or flashes.

WARNING

If the ESC indicator light ( ) or the EPS warning light ( ) remains on or flashes, the VSM system in your vehicle may be malfunctioning. When the warning light is on, we recommend having the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

NOTICE

Driving with wheels and tires of different sizes may cause the VSM system to malfunction. Before replacing tires, make sure all four tires and wheels are the same size. Never drive the vehicle with tires and wheels of different sizes installed.
