Description and Operation
Description
The compressor is the power unit of the air conditioning system. It is located on the side of the cylinder block and is driven by the engine drive belt. The compressor converts low-pressure, low-temperature gaseous refrigerant into high-pressure, high-temperature gaseous refrigerant. Variable Swash Plate Compressor: The compressor has a swash plate that rotates to reciprocate the pistons and compress the refrigerant. The variable swash plate compressor adjusts the swash plate angle to change refrigerant displacement. This provides precise control of cooling capacity according to cabin and driving conditions. Internal control variable compressor: adjusts the swash plate angle using the MCV (mechanical control valve) in response to suction pressure fluctuations. External control variable compressor: adjusts the swash plate angle using the ECV (electronic control valve) in response to an electrical signal from the heater and A/C control unit. This provides stable temperature control and improves driving comfort. ECV Control Circuit

Repair Procedures
Removal
If equipped with a compressor, the A/C operates for several minutes at idle, and then the engine stops.
Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Recover the refrigerant using a recovery/recharging station.
Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
Loosen the mounting nuts and separate the suction line (A) and liquid line (B).
Tightening torque: 20.9–31 N·m
Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to prevent moisture and dust from entering.
Press the locking pin and disconnect the ECV connector (A).
Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the compressor assembly (A).
Tightening torque: 19.6–33 N·m
Installation
Make sure the compressor mounting bolts (A) are the correct length. Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 19.6–33 N·m
[R Engine][Lambda Engine]
Install in the reverse order of removal.
If installing a new compressor, drain all refrigerant oil from the removed compressor and measure its volume. Subtract the drained oil volume from the initial capacity. The result is the amount of compressor oil to be drained from the new compressor (through the suction port).
Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installation. Make sure to use O-rings suitable for R-134a and R-1234yf to prevent leaks.
To prevent contamination, do not return oil to the container after dispensing and never mix it with other refrigerant oils.
Immediately after using the oil, close and seal the container cap to prevent moisture absorption.
Inspection
Inspect the limiter and hub for discoloration, peeling, or other damage. If damaged, replace the assembly.
Check the clearance of the pulley bearing (A) and rotate the pulley by hand. Replace the pulley if it is noisy or has excessive play/drag.
Inspection of External Control Valve Compressor (GDS)
Compressor type: Variable displacement compressor, external control valve, internal control valve. For fixed-type compressors and internal control valve types, the compressor operation can be checked by the clutch noise. However, for the external control valve, it cannot be checked this way because there is no clutch. Therefore, the ECV should be checked using GDS, as shown below.
Connect GDS to the vehicle and select "A/C Compressor Test (ECV Type)". [ECV1]
Prepare the vehicle according to the GDS instructions on the monitor. (Turn off only the A/C "switch")
Before inspecting the ECV compressor, check whether other DTCs are present. If so, resolve those issues first. If not, press the "OK" button to continue.
Do not continue the inspection if the following DTCs are detected: B1241, B1242, B1672, B1685, B1686, B1687
Start Inspection
Check whether the condenser fan operates when the condition changes to "ECV operating".
The pressure relief valve will operate if the condenser fan does not operate due to excessive pressure in the compressor. This helps the air conditioning system to discharge by releasing refrigerant and oil (lost during discharge). ※ Add refrigerant and oil after the pressure relief valve has operated. ※ Noise was heard when the pressure relief valve operated.
Check the inspection result. [ECV7] [ECV8]
If the result displays "Check", press "Check" and follow the instructions.
Recheck the ECV from the first step.
Disassembly
Remove the front wheel [RH].
Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
Remove the clutch bolt (A) while holding the pulley with the clutch bolt wrench (09977-3R000).
Tightening torque: 15.0 – 21 N·m
Loosen the limiter bolts and remove the limiter with hub assembly.
Remove the pulley (B) after removing the snap ring (A) with snap ring pliers.
Be careful not to damage the pulley and compressor during disassembly/assembly.
After removing the snap ring, replace it with a new one.
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Clean the pulley and compressor sliding surfaces with non-oil solvent.
Install a new snap ring and make sure it is fully seated in the groove.
Make sure the pulley rotates smoothly after assembly.
