Battery Charging

Battery Charging

Your vehicle has a maintenance-free, calcium-based battery.

  • If the battery has discharged over a short period (for example, headlights or interior lights were left on while the vehicle was not in use), recharge it with a slow charge (trickle) for 10 hours.
  • If the battery gradually discharges due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.

WARNING

Always follow these instructions when charging your vehicle's battery to avoid the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from explosions or acid burns:

  • Before performing maintenance or charging the battery, turn off all accessories and stop the engine.
  • Keep all flames, sparks, or smoking materials away from the battery.
  • Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear protective goggles when inspecting the battery during charging.
  • The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to boil violently.
  • The negative battery cable must be disconnected first and connected last when the battery is disconnected. Disconnect the battery in the following order:
    1. Turn off the power switch.
    2. Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
    3. Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.
  • Use replacement batteries from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

NOTICE

AGM Battery

  • Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are maintenance-free. We recommend that the battery be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. To charge an AGM battery, use only fully automatic chargers that are specifically designed for AGM batteries.
  • When replacing an AGM battery, use replacement parts from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Do not open or remove the cap on the top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolyte leakage, which may result in serious injury.

Jump Starting

After starting from a good battery, drive the vehicle for 20-30 minutes before turning it off. The vehicle may not restart if you turn it off before the battery has had a chance to recharge adequately. See "Jump Starting" in Chapter 8 for more information on jump starting procedures.

Information

Improper disposal of the battery can harm the environment and human health. Dispose of the battery in accordance with your local laws or regulations.

Reset Items

The following items may need to be reset after the battery has discharged or been disconnected.

  • Automatic Up/Down Windows
  • Sunroof
  • Trip computer
  • Climate Control System
  • Infotainment system (Refer to the infotainment system manual)
