For Better Battery Care

- The battery must be securely fastened.
- The top of the battery must be clean and dry.
- The battery terminals and connectors must be clean, properly tightened, and coated with petroleum jelly or grease.
- If battery electrolyte spills, immediately flush the area with a solution of water and baking soda.
- If the vehicle will be left unused for an extended period, disconnect the battery cables.
Information
The base battery is maintenance-free. If LOWER and UPPER level marks appear on the side of your battery, you can check the electrolyte level. It should be between the LOWER and UPPER marks. If the electrolyte level is low, add distilled (deionized) water. Never add sulfuric acid or any other electrolyte under any circumstances. When adding water, be careful not to splash the battery and adjacent components. Also make sure not to overfill the battery cells, as this may cause corrosion of other parts. Then be sure to tighten the cell caps. We recommend that you use an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
Battery Hazards
Read the following battery handling instructions.
Keep lighted cigarettes and other sources of flame or sparks away from the battery.
Battery cells always contain hydrogen, a flammable gas that can explode when ignited.
Keep the battery out of the reach of children, as it contains ACID. Highly corrosive SULFURIC acid must not contact eyes, skin, clothing, or paint.
If electrolyte gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. If acid contacts your skin, thoroughly wash the affected area. If you feel pain or burning, seek medical attention immediately.
Wear safety glasses when charging the battery or working near the battery. Provide adequate ventilation when working in an enclosed area.
Failure to follow battery disposal regulations may harm the environment and human health. Dispose of the battery in accordance with applicable laws or regulations.
- When lifting a battery with a plastic case, excessive pressure on the case may cause acid leakage, which may cause injury. Use a battery carrier or place your hands on each side of the battery.
- Never attempt to charge the battery while the cables are connected.
- The electric starting system operates at high voltage. Never touch these components with the engine running or the ignition switch in the ON position.
Failure to observe the warnings above may result in serious injury or even death.
WARNING
The battery may discharge if electrical devices that are not approved are connected to it. Never use unapproved devices.
