Description of Scheduled Maintenance Items
Engine Oil and Filter
Engine oil and oil filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, changes should be performed more frequently.
Seat Belts
Inspect the belts for cuts, tears, excessive wear, or oil saturation, and replace them if necessary. Belt tension should be checked regularly and adjusted if necessary.
WARNING
When inspecting the belt, turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF or ACC position.
Fuel Filter (Cartridge)
A clogged fuel filter may limit vehicle speed, cause damage to the exhaust system, and lead to hard starting. When a large amount of foreign matter has accumulated in the fuel tank or fuel filter, the fuel filter must be replaced.
After installing a new filter, let the diesel engine run for several minutes and check the connections for leaks. We recommend having an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace the fuel filter.
Fuel Lines, Hoses and Fittings
Inspect the fuel lines, hoses, and fittings for leaks and damage. We recommend having an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace the fuel lines, hoses, and fittings of the fuel supply system.
WARNING
Diesel Engine
Under no circumstances should you manipulate or modify the injection system while the diesel engine is running or within 30 seconds after the engine has been stopped. Immediately after the engine is stopped, the high-pressure pump, high-pressure lines, rail, and injectors are always under high pressure. Escaping fuel may cause serious personal injury. With the diesel engine running, persons with a pacemaker must keep a distance of 30 cm from the ECM or cables. The high current from the engine control electrical system creates a high-amplitude magnetic field.
Vapor Hose and Fuel Tank Cap
Inspect the vapor hose and fuel tank cap at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Make sure they are replaced with the correct parts.
Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hoses (if equipped)
Inspect the hose surfaces for signs of wear caused by heat and/or mechanical stress. Hardened, brittle rubber, cracks, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessive swelling are signs of deterioration. Pay particular attention to hose surfaces located near heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Make sure these hoses do not contact heat sources, sharp objects, or moving parts that could damage them. Check that all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, are properly secured and do not leak. Hoses showing signs of wear must be replaced immediately.
Air filter
We recommend having a dealer replace the air filter. HYUNDAI agrees.
Spark Plugs
Be sure to install new spark plugs with the correct heat range.
WARNING
Do not disconnect or inspect the spark plugs while the engine is hot. Running the engine is hot and you risk burns.
Cooling System
Make sure the cooling system components, such as the radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses, and fittings, show no signs of leaks or wear. Replace damaged parts.
Engine Coolant
Engine coolant should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule.
Automatic Transmission Fluid (if applicable)
It is not necessary to check the automatic transmission fluid level under normal driving conditions.
We recommend having a dealer replace the automatic transmission fluid. HYUNDAI agrees with the maintenance schedule.
NOTICE
Normally, automatic transmission fluid is red in color.
It tends to darken as you use the vehicle.
This development is normal, and this change in color should not make you suspect that the fluid needs to be replaced.
WARNING
Using a non-recommended fluid may cause malfunction or damage to the transmission. Use only the specified automatic transmission fluid (see the "Recommended Capacities and Lubricants" section in Chapter 8).
Manual Transmission Fluid (if equipped)
Check the manual transmission fluid in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
Brake Hoses and Lines
Visually inspect for correct installation and for signs of abrasion or wear, cracks, or leaks. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
Brake Fluid / Clutch Fluid (if applicable)
Check the brake fluid level. It should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only DOT 3 or DOT 4 hydraulic brake fluid.
Parking Brake
Inspect the parking brake system, including the lever (or pedal) and cables.
Brake Pads, Calipers, and Discs
Make sure the brake pads are not excessively worn, the discs are not worn, and the calipers are not leaking.
For more information on checking brake pad or lining thickness, we recommend visiting the HYUNDAI website.

Suspension Mounting Bolts
Make sure the suspension fasteners are not loose or damaged. Tighten them to the specified torque.
Steering Gear, Steering Linkage and Boots / Lower Arm Ball Joints
With the vehicle stopped and the engine off, make sure the steering wheel does not have excessive play.
Make sure the linkage is not bent or damaged. Make sure the bellows and ball joints show no signs of wear or cracks. Replace damaged parts.
Driveshafts and boots
Make sure the drive shafts, boots, and fasteners show no signs of wear, damage, or cracks. Replace damaged parts and lubricate if necessary.
Refrigerant / Air Conditioning Compressor
Make sure the air conditioning lines and fittings show no leaks or signs of wear.
