Checking the Engine Oil Level

■ Gasoline Engine

■ Diesel Engine
1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground.
2. Start the engine and let it reach normal operating temperature.
3. Stop the engine and wait about 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
4. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it fully.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the level. It should be between the F and L marks.
WARNING
Radiator Hose
Do not touch the radiator hose when checking or adding engine oil. You may get burned.
WARNING
- Do not overfill with engine oil. You may damage the engine.
- Be careful when filling the tank or changing the oil. If you spill oil in the engine compartment, wipe it up immediately.
- Use a clean cloth to wipe the dipstick. Introducing dirt may damage the engine.
WARNING
Diesel Engine
Adding too much engine oil to a diesel engine may cause self-ignition due to the over-revving effect. In this case, the diesel engine risks being damaged by sudden engine start-up, combustion noise and white smoke emissions.

If the level reaches or is near the L mark, add enough oil to reach the F mark without exceeding it. Use a funnel to avoid spilling oil on engine parts.
Use only the specified engine oil (see "Capacities and Recommended Lubricants" in Chapter 8).
