Operating the Vehicle
Shift Lock System (If Equipped)
In this manual: Operating the Vehicle
~1min read
For your safety, automatic transmissions are equipped with a shift lock system that prevents shifting from "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral) into "R" (Reverse) unless the brake pedal is depressed.
To shift from "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral) into "R" (Reverse):
1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
2. Move the selector lever.
If the brake pedal is repeatedly depressed and released while the selector lever is in "P" (Park), a clicking noise may be heard near the lever. This is normal.
WARNING
When shifting out of P (Park), always fully depress the brake pedal to prevent unintended vehicle movement that could injure occupants or people near the vehicle.
