Automatic Transmission Operation
The automatic transmission has 4 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. The specific gear is selected automatically depending on the position of the selector lever.
NOTE
In a new vehicle, if the battery has been disconnected, the first few gear shifts may be fairly abrupt. This is not a sign of a malfunction. The shift pattern will be adapted by the TCM (Transmission Control Module) / PCM (Powertrain Control Module) after several shifts.
Shifting from N (Neutral) into a forward or reverse gear is smoother when the brake pedal is depressed.
WARNING
- Automatic Transmission
• Before moving the selector lever to D (Drive) or R (Reverse), always check that no people are nearby, especially children.
• Before leaving the driver's seat, always move the selector lever to P (Park), fully apply the parking brake, and stop the engine. If these precautions are not followed in this order, the vehicle may suddenly move unexpectedly.
• Do not shift from N (Neutral) or P (Park) into D (Drive) or R (Reverse) when the engine is running at high idle speed.
