Parking Brake
Applying the Parking Brake
To apply the parking brake, first press the service brake pedal, then raise the parking brake lever without pressing the release button.
When parking a vehicle with a manual transmission on a slope, it is recommended to shift into a lower gear, or into the "P" (Park) position for a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

Releasing the Parking Brake
To release the parking brake, first press the foot brake pedal and slightly pull up the parking brake lever. Then press the release button (1) and lower the parking brake lever (2) while holding the button pressed.
If the parking brake does not release or does not release fully, have it checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
• To prevent the vehicle from moving unintentionally when stopping and exiting, do not use the shift lever as a parking brake.
Apply the parking brake and make sure the shift lever is securely locked in the "P" (Park) position.
• Never allow persons unfamiliar with the vehicle or children to touch the parking brake. Unintentional release of the parking brake may result in serious injury.
• To prevent unintended vehicle movement that may injure occupants or pedestrians, always fully apply the parking brake when parking.

Check the brake system warning lamp by turning the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine). With the parking brake applied and the ignition key in the START or ON position, this lamp should illuminate.
Before driving, make sure the parking brake is fully released and the brake system warning lamp is off.
If the brake system warning lamp stays on after the parking brake is released with the engine running, this may indicate a malfunction in the brake system. Pay immediate attention to this.
If possible, stop driving immediately. If this is not possible, drive with extreme caution and continue only to a safe location or to a service station.
