Snow-Covered or Icy Roads
Winter tires or tire chains may be required for driving in deep snow. When selecting winter tires, use the type and size that match the tires originally fitted to the vehicle by the manufacturer. Failure to do so may adversely affect vehicle safety and handling. In addition, driving at high speed, rapid acceleration and braking, and sharp turns are potentially very dangerous.
To reduce speed, use engine braking as often as possible. Hard braking on snow-covered or icy roads may cause wheel spin. Maintain sufficient distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead. Also, depress the brake pedal smoothly.
Be aware that installing tire chains increases traction but does not prevent side slip.
NOTE
The use of tire chains is not permitted by law in all countries.
Check the applicable regulations before installing them.
