Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is a Hall effect sensor and detects the camshaft position using a Hall element. It works in conjunction with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) and identifies the piston position of each cylinder, which the CKPS cannot detect. The CMPS is installed on the cylinder head cover and uses a target wheel installed on the camshaft. When the target wheel passes the Hall sensor, the magnetic field changes in the sensor. The sensor then switches the signal, which creates a square wave.
