Driving Your Vehicle

Proper Braking Practices

~1min read

WARNING

Whenever you exit the vehicle or park, always come to a complete stop and continue to depress the brake pedal. Shift the transmission to P (Park), apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.

Vehicles parked without the parking brake applied or not in P (Park) may roll unexpectedly and may cause injury to the driver and others. ALWAYS apply the parking brake before exiting the vehicle.

Wet brakes can be dangerous! Brakes may get wet when the vehicle is driven through standing water or when it is washed. Your vehicle may not stop quickly if the brakes are wet. Wet brakes may cause the vehicle to pull to one side.

To dry the brakes, lightly depress the brake pedal until braking action returns to normal. If braking action does not return to normal, stop as soon as it is safe to do so and seek assistance from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Do NOT drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause brake overheating, brake wear, and possibly even brake failure.

If a tire deflates while driving, gently depress the brake pedal and keep the vehicle pointed straight ahead while slowing down. When you are moving slowly enough to do so safely, steer off the road and stop in a safe location.

Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when stopped to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward.
