Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
Vehicle Stability Management is an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) function. It helps the vehicle remain stable when accelerating or braking suddenly on wet, slippery or rough roads, where traction on the four wheels may suddenly become uneven.
WARNING
VSM does not replace safe driving practices. To avoid serious injury or death:
- Always watch your speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead.
- Never drive too fast for road conditions. Excessive speed in bad weather or on slippery or uneven roads can result in serious collisions.
VSM Operation
During Operation
When you apply the brake under conditions that may activate ESC, you may hear brake noises or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your VSM is active.
Information
VSM does not operate when:
- Driving on a sloped road, such as a grade or incline.
- Driving in reverse.
- The ESC OFF indicator light comes on.
- MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) warning light (
) comes on or flashes.
VSM OFF Mode
To cancel VSM operation, press the ESC OFF button. ESC OFF (
) indicator light illuminates.
To turn VSM back on, press the ESC OFF button again. The ESC OFF indicator turns off.
WARNING
If the ESC (
) indicator or the MDPS (
) warning light stays on or flashes, there may be a malfunction in the VSM system. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
