To apply the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake):
1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
2. Pull up the EPB switch. Make sure the parking brake warning light illuminates.
The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) may be applied automatically when:
- Requested by other systems.
- The driver turns off the engine while Auto Hold is operating.
Emergency Braking
If there is a problem with the brake pedal while driving, emergency braking can be applied by pulling up and holding the EPB switch. Braking is only possible while you hold the EPB switch. However, the braking distance may be longer than normal.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, do not use the EPB while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This may damage the brake system and result in a collision.
Information
During emergency braking, the parking brake indicator light will illuminate and you may hear a clicking sound.
NOTICE
If you notice a noise or burning smell when the EPB is used for emergency braking, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

To release the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) automatically:
Transmission in P (Park) or N (Neutral) Position
With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive). Make sure the driver's door, hood, and tailgate are closed and the seat belt is fastened.
Information
- You can apply the EPB even if the ignition switch is in the LOCK/OFF position (only when battery power is available), but you cannot release it.
- Depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually with the EPB switch before descending or when backing up.
NOTICE
- If the parking brake warning light remains on even though the EPB has been released, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Do not drive the vehicle with the EPB applied. This may cause excessive brake pad and brake disc wear.
