"Clean Front Radar Sensor" Warning

The "ACC/FCW Unavailable Clean Front Radar Sensor" message will display and a chime will sound when conditions temporarily limit system performance.

This most often occurs in conditions of poor visibility, such as heavy snow or rain. The ACC system may also be temporarily blinded by obstructions such as dirt, mud, or ice. In these cases, the instrument cluster display will show "ACC/FCW Unavailable. Clean Front Radar Sensor" and the system will turn off.

The message "ACC/FCW Unavailable Clean Front Radar" may sometimes appear while driving in areas with high reflectivity (for example, in tunnels with reflective tiles, or with ice and snow). The ACC system will recover after the vehicle leaves these areas. In rare cases, when the radar is not tracking any vehicles or objects in its path, this warning may appear temporarily.

NOTE:

If the message "ACC/FCW Unavailable Wipe Front Radar" or the Sensor Warning is active, Cruise Control remains available.

If weather conditions are not a factor, the driver should inspect the sensor. It may require cleaning or removal of an obstruction. The sensor is located in the center of the vehicle behind the lower grille.

To ensure the ACC system operates properly, it is important to observe the following maintenance items:

  • Always keep the sensor clean. Carefully wipe the sensor lens with a soft cloth. Be careful not to damage the sensor lens.
  • Do not loosen the screws on the sensor. This may cause the ACC system to malfunction or fail, and the sensor will require realignment.
  • If the sensor or the front of the vehicle is damaged as a result of a collision, contact an authorized dealer for service.
  • Do not attach or install accessories near the sensor, including transparent material or secondary grilles. This may cause the ACC system to malfunction or fail.

When the condition that deactivated the system no longer exists, the system will return to the "Adaptive Cruise Control Off" mode and the function can be resumed simply by reactivating it.

NOTE:

If the message "ACC/FCW Unavailable Wipe Front Radar" appears frequently (for example, more than once per trip) without snow, rain, dirt, or other obstruction, have the front radar sensor adjusted by an authorized dealer.

The warning "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality Clean Front Windshield" will appear and a chime will sound when conditions temporarily limit system performance. This most often occurs in conditions of poor visibility, such as heavy snow, rain, and fog. The ACC system may also be temporarily blinded by an obstruction, such as dirt, mud, or ice on the windshield, or fog on the inside of the glass. In these cases, the instrument cluster display will show "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality Clean Front Windshield," and system performance will be reduced.

The message "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality Clean Front Windshield" may sometimes appear while driving in adverse weather conditions. The ACC/FCW system will recover after the vehicle leaves these areas. In rare cases, when the camera is not tracking any vehicles or objects in its path, this warning may appear temporarily.

If weather conditions are not a factor, the driver should inspect the windshield and the camera located on the back of the interior rearview mirror. They may require cleaning or removal of an obstruction.

When the condition that caused the limited functionality no longer exists, the system will return to full functionality.

NOTE:

If the message "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality Clean Front Windshield" appears frequently (for example, more than once per trip) without snow, rain, dirt, or other obstructions, have the windshield and front camera inspected by an authorized dealer.

If the system shuts off and the instrument cluster displays "ACC/FCW Service Required" or "Cruise/FCW Service Required," there may be an internal system malfunction or a temporary fault limiting ACC functionality. Although the vehicle can still be driven under normal conditions, ACC will be temporarily unavailable. If this occurs, try reactivating ACC later, after an ignition cycle. If the problem is not resolved, contact an authorized dealer.
