Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission
The transmission range (PRNDM) is displayed both next to the gear selector and in the instrument cluster. To select a transmission range, press the release button on the gear selector and move the selector rearward or forward. To shift the transmission out of PARK, the engine must be running and the brake pedal must be depressed. You must also depress the brake pedal to shift from NEUTRAL to DRIVE or REVERSE when the vehicle is stopped or moving at low speed. Select the DRIVE range for normal driving.
NOTE:
If the gear selector position and the actual transmission gear do not match (for example, the driver selects PARK while driving), the position indicator will flash continuously until the selector is returned to the desired position, or the requested shift can be completed.
The electronically controlled transmission adapts its shift schedule to driver inputs, as well as environmental and road conditions. The transmission electronics are self-calibrating; therefore, the first few shifts on a new vehicle may be somewhat harsh. This is normal, and precise shifting will develop within several hundred miles (kilometers).
Shift from DRIVE to PARK or REVERSE only when the accelerator pedal is released and the vehicle is stopped. Always keep your foot on the brake pedal when shifting between these gears.
The transmission gear selector provides PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, DRIVE and MANUAL (AutoStick) shift positions. Manual shifting can be performed using the AutoStick shift control. Moving the gear selector forward (-) or rearward (+) in the MANUAL (AutoStick) position (next to the DRIVE position) will manually select the transmission gear and display the current gear in the instrument cluster.

NOTE:
If the gear selector cannot be moved to the PARK, REVERSE or NEUTRAL position (when pushed forward), the AutoStick (+/-) position (next to the DRIVE position) is most likely the cause. In AutoStick mode, the gear (1, 2, 3, etc.) is displayed in the instrument cluster. Move the gear selector to the right (into the DRIVE [D] position) to access PARK, REVERSE and NEUTRAL.
