Driving Your Vehicle

System Malfunction

~2min read

If the "Check Driver Attention Warning (DAW) System" warning message appears, the system is not operating properly. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING

  • The Driver Attention Warning does not replace safe driving practices and is a convenience feature only. It is the driver's responsibility to always drive carefully to prevent unexpected and sudden situations from occurring. Always pay attention to road conditions.
  • A driver who feels tired should take a break even if there is no break suggestion from the Driver Attention Warning.

✽ NOTICE

The Driver Attention Warning uses the windshield-mounted front view camera sensor to operate. To keep the front view camera sensor in the best condition, observe the following:

- Do not disassemble the camera or temporarily attach tinted film or any type of coating or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer to check whether the system requires calibration.
- Do not place any reflective objects (such as white paper or a mirror) on top of the instrument panel. Any light reflection may cause the Driver Attention Warning to malfunction.
- Take extra care to keep the front view camera free from water.
- Do not disassemble the camera assembly or apply any impact to the camera assembly.

• Playing the vehicle audio system at a high volume may mask the Driver Attention Warning sounds.

For more information on the front view camera, refer to "Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)."

✽ NOTICE

The Driver Attention Warning may not operate properly with limited warning in the following situations:

  • The system will not operate for approximately 15 seconds when restarting the engine or initializing the front view camera, such as during a reset, etc.
  • The lane detection performance is limited. (For more information, refer to "Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)" in this chapter.)
  • The vehicle is operated with excessive force or the steering wheel is turned sharply to avoid an obstacle (e.g., construction site, other vehicles, falling objects, rough road).
  • Frequent intentional lane changes
