Description and Operation

Description

The ambient temperature sensor is located at the front of the condenser and detects the ambient air temperature. It is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor; its resistance increases as the temperature decreases and decreases as the temperature increases.

The sensor output is used to control discharge air temperature, door control, blower motor speed, blend mode control, and in-vehicle humidity control.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Check the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor between terminals 1 and 2 and verify that it changes as the ambient temperature changes.

    1. Ambient Temperature Sensor (+)
    2. Sensor Ground

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the engine room cover.

G 2.0 MPI NU (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - Engine Room Under Cover)

G 1.6 MPI GAMMA (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - Engine Room Under Cover)

D 1.6 TCI-NEW U (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - Engine Room Under Cover)

G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")

  3. Disconnect the connector, then remove the ambient temperature sensor (A).

  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
