Description and Operation

Description

The evaporator temperature sensor detects the evaporator core temperature and cuts off power to the compressor relay to prevent the evaporator from freezing due to excessive cooling. The evaporator temperature sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) type. The electrical resistance of the NTC increases as the temperature decreases and decreases as the temperature increases.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between the "+" and "-" terminals of the evaporator temperature sensor.
