Repair Procedures

Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Loosen the generator mounting bolts (A).

  3. Loosen the drive belt tension by loosening the adjusting bolt (B).

  4. Remove the drive belt (A).

Inspection

Drive Belt Inspection

Visually inspect the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.

If any defect is found, replace the drive belt.

Adjustment

Drive Belt Tension Measurement and Adjustment

Belt Tension Measurement

Measure the belt tension using a mechanical tension gauge or sonic tension meter.

Voltage

New belt:

980.7–1078.7 N (100.0–110.0 kgf, 220.5–242.5 lbf)

Used belt:

706.1–804.1 N (72.0–82.0 kgf, 158.7–180.8 lbf)

Using the Mechanical Tension Gauge

  1. While pressing the handle (A) of the gauge, install the belt (B) between the pulley and the idler pulley (or tensioner pulley) in the gap between the spindle (C) and the hook (D).

  2. Release the handle (A) and read the value on the dial indicated by the pointer (B).

Using the Sonic Tension Meter

  1. Enter the belt specifications into the tension gauge.

Belt Type Measurement Point Input Data
    M (Mass, g/m) W (Width, ribs) S (Span, mm)
    With A/C Crankshaft pulley to A/C compressor pulley 13,4 6 178,9
Without A/C Tensioner to generator pulley 13,4 6 Actual measured value

  2. Locate the microphone (B) near the center of the belt span (A) and tap the belt with a finger 2–3 times. Read the value on the display.

If adjustment is necessary

  1. Loosen the mounting bolts (A).

  2. Turn the adjusting bolt (B) slightly clockwise to increase tension; turn counterclockwise to decrease tension.

  3. Recheck the belt tension.

  4. After adjusting the tension, tighten the through bolts.

    Tightening Torque

    12 mm (0.47 in.) bolt:

    26.5–37 N·m [Class 10T]

    24.3–27 N·m [Class 8T]

    14 mm (0.55 in.) bolt:

    29,4–41 N·m

Installation

  1. Install the drive belt (A).

  2. Adjust the tension by tightening the generator tension adjusting bolt (B), then install the mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening Torque

    12 mm (0.47 in.) bolt:

    26.5–37 N·m [Class 10T]

    24.3–27 N·m [Class 8T]

    14 mm (0.55 in.) bolt:

    29,4–41 N·m
