Driving

Instruments

~2min read

The instrument panel in the Kia Opirus (2003–2012) is clearly structured and provides all driving-relevant information at a glance. The speedometer, trip odometer, tachometer, engine temperature gauge and fuel gauge provide precise readings for safe and controlled driving. The brightness of the instrument lighting can also be adjusted individually. Important safety notes, such as avoiding high engine speeds and refueling in good time when the warning light comes on, ensure driving comfort and protection.

Speedometer

The speedometer shows the vehicle's speed (forward).

Odometer/trip odometer

Press the selector button to choose between the odometer display and trip odometers A and B. (TRIP A/B)

Odometer

The odometer shows the total distance the vehicle has traveled.

Trip odometer

TRIP A: Trip odometer A

TRIP B: Trip odometer B

The trip odometers show the distance covered on individual trips. Both trip odometers can be reset to "0" by pressing and holding the selector button for 1 second or longer, then releasing it.

Tachometer

The tachometer shows the approximate engine speed in revolutions per minute.

Monitor the tachometer to select appropriate shift points and to avoid driving at engine speeds that are too low or too high.

The tachometer needle may move slightly when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position.

This movement is normal and does not affect the accuracy of the tachometer when the engine is running.

CAUTION

Do not rev the engine so high that the engine speed enters the RED ZONE.

This may cause severe engine damage.

Engine temperature gauge

With the ignition on, this gauge shows the temperature of the engine coolant.

Do not continue driving if the engine has overheated. If the engine has become too hot, refer to the information under "Overheating".

CAUTION

If the temperature gauge rises beyond the normal range toward "H", this indicates overheating, which can damage the engine.

Fuel gauge

The fuel gauge shows the approximate amount of fuel in the tank.

The fuel tank capacity is approx.

70 liters.

The fuel gauge is supplemented by a fuel warning light, which comes on when the fuel tank is nearly empty.

CAUTION - Fuel gauge

Vehicle occupants may be exposed to dangerous situations if the tank is run empty.

Stop and refuel as soon as the fuel warning light comes on or when the fuel gauge approaches the E (empty) mark.
