Defrosting and demisting the windshield

The defroster system in the Kia Opirus provides a fast and effective way to keep the windshield free of fog in cold or humid weather. Depending on the outside temperature, the air conditioning and fresh air mode switch on automatically. To de-ice the outside of the windshield, the highest fan speed and temperature are recommended. Important notes on possible impairment of visibility and safe handling make this section especially practical.

Demisting the windshield inside

1. Select the desired fan speed.

2. Select the desired temperature.

3. Press the Defrost button ().

4. The air conditioning is switched on depending on the detected outside temperature.

The fresh air mode is switched on automatically.

De-icing the outside of the windshield

1. Turn the blower control to the far right position.

2. Select a high temperature (25 °C ~ HI).

3. Press the Defrost button ().

4. The air conditioning is switched on depending on the detected outside temperature.

The fresh air mode is switched on automatically.

In high humidity, do not switch on Defrost and the air conditioning at the same time. The temperature difference between the windshield and the outside air may cause the outside of the windshield to fog up and impair visibility.

• To achieve the maximum defrost effect, select the highest temperature and the highest fan speed.
• If warm air at foot level is desired while de-icing or defrosting, select the "Foot & Defrost" mode.
• Before driving, clear ice and snow from the windshield, rear window, outside mirrors and all side windows.
• Also remove ice and snow from the hood and the air intake opening in front of the windshield to increase the effectiveness of the heater and defroster and to reduce the possibility of the interior windows fogging up.

The defrosting system of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 ensures clear visibility in all weather. Through automatic activation of the air conditioning and effective air distribution, the windshield is kept free of fog quickly.

The combination of fresh air mode and high fan speed improves the effect further. This keeps the Kia Opirus a safe vehicle even in difficult weather conditions.

Why is fresh air mode activated automatically when defrosting in the Kia Opirus 2003–2011?
