Cruise control
The cruise control in the Kia Opirus (2003–2012) lets you travel relaxed at a constant speed between 40 and 200 km/h. The system is easy to activate and intuitive to operate, making it ideal for long highway trips. Detailed explanations of speed adjustment, temporary deactivation and complete switch-off make its use safe and convenient. The warnings provide a high level of driving safety.
The cruise control system lets you set a driving speed that your vehicle then maintains without you having to operate the accelerator pedal.
Any speed between 40 km/h and 200 km/h can be selected.
CAUTION - Cruise ControlDo not use the cruise control function under the following conditions:
- Heavy or irregular traffic flow.
- Slippery or winding roads.
- Situations that cause constantly changing speeds.

Setting the Cruise Control Speed
1. Press the CRUISE ON/OFF button on the steering wheel to switch on the system. The CRUISE indicator in the instrument cluster will then illuminate.
2. Bring the vehicle up to the desired speed between 40 km/h and 200 km/h.
WARNINGIf the cruise control system remains switched on (the CRUISE indicator in the instrument cluster is illuminated), speed control may engage unexpectedly. Therefore, switch off the cruise control system (the CRUISE indicator in the instrument cluster is not illuminated) when it is not needed.

3. Press the COAST/SET button on the steering wheel to store the desired speed and release the accelerator pedal at the same time. The stored speed will then be maintained automatically.
The SET function is available approximately 2 seconds after switching on the system with the CRUISE ON/OFF button at the earliest.
When driving on a steep downhill grade, the vehicle may momentarily decelerate.
Cancelling the Cruise Control Function (Several Methods)
- By depressing the brake pedal.
- By moving the selector lever to the N (Neutral) position.
- By pressing the CANCEL button on the steering wheel.
- By pressing the steering wheel buttons COAST/SET and RES/ACCEL at the same time.
All of the above actions interrupt cruise control (the SET indicator in the instrument cluster goes out), but they do not switch off the cruise control system. To resume cruise control, press the steering wheel button RES/ACCEL. The vehicle will then return to the previously set speed.
Switching off the cruise control system (several options)
- by pressing the CRUISE ON/OFF button on the steering wheel. The CRUISE indicator light in the instrument cluster then goes out.
- by switching off the ignition.
Both of the above actions switch off the cruise control system.
If you want to switch cruise control back on afterwards, follow the instructions under "Setting the cruise control speed" earlier in this section.

Increasing the set cruise control speed
There are two ways to do this:
- Press and hold the steering wheel button RES/ACCEL. The vehicle accelerates while the button is pressed. Release the button when the desired speed is reached.
- Briefly press the steering wheel button RES/ACCEL and release it. Each additional brief press of this button increases the vehicle speed by approx. 1.6 km/h. The increased speed is stored with each button press.
Accelerating temporarily while cruise control is on
If you want to accelerate temporarily while cruise control is on, depress the accelerator pedal. The higher speed does not change the set cruise control speed.
When you release the accelerator pedal, cruise control returns to the previously set speed.

Reducing the set cruise control speed
There are two ways to do this:
- Press and hold the steering wheel button COAST/SET. The vehicle gradually decelerates while the button is pressed.
Release the button when the desired speed is reached.
- Briefly press the steering wheel button COAST/SET and release it. Each additional brief press of this button reduces the vehicle speed by approx. 1.6 km/h. The reduced speed is stored with each button press.

Resuming the set cruise control speed (above 40 km/h)
If the set cruise control speed has been cancelled in any way other than by pressing the steering wheel button CRUISE ON/OFF, and the system is still switched on, the vehicle resumes the previously set speed after you press the steering wheel button RES/ACCEL.
However, the set speed will not be resumed if the current vehicle speed has dropped below 40 km/h.
The cruise control system of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 makes long journeys easier by maintaining a constant speed, which increases driving comfort. Operation via the steering wheel buttons is intuitive and designed for safety.
Thanks to its numerous safety features, the system can be interrupted or switched off at any time when needed. This keeps the Kia Opirus a comfortable and safe companion on every route.
