5. Block the front and rear wheels diagonally opposite the jack position.

WARNING - Tire Replacement

  • To prevent the vehicle from moving during tire replacement, always apply the parking brake fully and always block the wheel diagonally opposite the one being replaced.
  • We recommend blocking the vehicle's wheels and not allowing anyone to remain in the vehicle while it is raised with the jack.
6.Loosen the wheel lug nuts counterclockwise one turn each, but do not remove

6. Loosen each wheel nut counterclockwise by one turn, but do not remove any nut until the tire is off the ground.

7.Place the jack at the front or rear jacking position closest to the tire you

7. Install the jack at the front or rear jacking position nearest the tire being changed. Install the jack at the designated locations under the frame.

WARNING - Jack Position

To avoid injury, use only the jack supplied with the vehicle and in the correct jacking position; never use any other part of the vehicle to support the jack.

8.Insert the jack handle into the jack and turn it clockwise, raising the vehicle

8. Insert the jack handle into the jack and turn it clockwise to raise the vehicle until the tire is off the ground. This distance is approximately 1 in (30 mm).

Before removing the wheel nuts, make sure the vehicle is stable and there is no chance of movement or slipping.

9. Loosen the wheel nuts and remove them by hand. Slide the wheel off the wheel studs and place it flat so that it cannot roll. To install the wheel onto the hub, lift the spare tire, align the holes with the studs, and slide the wheel onto them. If this is difficult, tilt the wheel slightly and align the upper hole with the upper stud. Then rock the wheel back and forth until it begins to slide over the other studs.

WARNING

Wheels may have sharp edges. Handle them carefully to avoid possible serious injury. Before installing the wheel, make sure there is no foreign material (such as mud, resin, gravel, etc.) on the hub or wheel that could prevent the wheel from seating flush against the hub.

If present, remove it. If the mounting surface contact between the wheel and hub is not correct, the wheel nuts may loosen and the wheel may come off. Loss of a wheel may result in loss of vehicle control, which may cause serious injury or death.

10. To install the wheel, hold it on the studs, place the wheel nuts on the studs, and tighten them by hand. Rock the tire to make sure it is seated fully, then tighten the nuts by hand again as far as possible.

11. Insert the wheel nut wrench into the jack and lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the wrench counterclockwise.

Then position the wrench as shown in the drawing and tighten the wheel nuts.

Then position the wrench as shown in the illustration and tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure the socket is fully seated on the nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or use an extension pipe on the wrench handle.

Work around the wheel, tightening each nut in the numerical sequence shown in the illustration until they are snug. Then check the tightness of each nut twice. After changing the wheel, have the wheel nuts tightened to the correct torque by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Wheel nut tightening torque:

65~79 lb·ft (9~11 kg·m)

If you have a tire pressure gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is below the recommended level, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the correct pressure. If it is too high, release air until it is correct. Always install the valve cap after checking or adjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not installed, dust and dirt may enter the valve stem and air may leak from the tire. If you lose the valve cap, purchase a new one and install it as soon as possible.

After changing the wheel, always secure the flat tire in its place and return the jack and tools to their proper storage locations.

CAUTION

Your vehicle has metric threads on the wheel studs and wheel nuts. When removing a wheel, make sure the same nuts are reinstalled, or, when replacing a nut, use one with metric threads and the same seat configuration. Installing a non-metric nut on a metric stud, or vice versa, will not properly secure the wheel to the hub and will damage the stud, which may require the stud to be replaced. Note that most aftermarket lug nuts are not metric. Be extremely careful to check the thread type before installing aftermarket nuts or wheels. If in doubt, consult an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING - Wheel Studs

If the studs are damaged, they may lose the ability to hold the wheel. This may result in loss of the wheel and a serious collision with injury.

To prevent rattling of the jack, jack handle, wheel nut wrench, and spare tire while the vehicle is in motion, store them properly.

WARNING - Insufficient Spare Tire Pressure

Check the tire inflation pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire. Adjust to the specified pressure if necessary.

Important - Use of the Temporary Spare Tire (if equipped)

Your vehicle is equipped with a compact spare tire. This compact spare tire takes up less space than a regular-size tire. This tire is smaller than a regular tire and is intended for temporary use only.

CAUTION

  • When using the compact spare tire, drive carefully. The compact spare tire should be replaced with a regular tire and wheel as soon as possible.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with more than one temporary spare tire in use at the same time.

WARNING

The temporary spare tire is for emergency use only. Do not drive the vehicle on this temporary spare at speeds over 50 mph (80 km/h). The original tire should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid damage to the spare tire. Failure to do so may result in injury or death.

The temporary spare tire must be inflated to 60 psi (420 kPa).

✽ NOTICE

Check the tire pressure after installing the spare tire. Adjust it to the specified pressure if necessary.

When using the compact spare tire, observe the following precautions:

  • Under no circumstances exceed 50 mph (80 km/h); higher speeds may damage the tire.
  • Make sure you drive slowly enough for road conditions to avoid all hazards. Any road hazard, such as a pothole or debris, may seriously damage the temporary spare tire.
  • Continued use of this tire on the road may cause it to fail, resulting in loss of vehicle control and possible injury.
  • Do not exceed the vehicle's maximum load capacity or the load capacity shown on the sidewall of the compact spare tire.
  • Avoid driving over obstacles. The diameter of the temporary spare tire is smaller than that of a standard tire and reduces ground clearance by approximately 1 in (25 mm), which may cause damage to the vehicle.
  • Do not wash this vehicle through an automatic car wash when the temporary spare tire is installed. • Do not use snow chains on the temporary spare tire. Due to its smaller size, the snow chain will not fit properly. This could damage the vehicle and cause the chain to come loose.
  • Do not use the compact spare tire on any other vehicle, because this tire was designed specifically for your vehicle.
  • The tread life of the compact spare tire is shorter than that of a conventional tire. Inspect the compact spare tire regularly and replace worn compact spare tires with one of the same size and design, mounted on the same wheel.
  • The temporary spare tire cannot be used on any other wheels. Standard tires, winter tires, wheel covers, or decorative rings cannot be used with the temporary spare tire. Attempting such use may result in damage to these items or other vehicle components.
  • Do not use more than one compact spare tire at the same time.
  • Do not tow a trailer while the compact spare tire is installed.
