Description

The passenger airbag (PAB) module is located in the passenger's seat area. The PAB contains 2 airbag squibs and 1 active vent squib. The deployment timing of both airbag squibs and the active vent squib depends on the collision severity or seat belt tension level. At the moment of collision, the active vent squib inflates the airbag, and when the passenger contacts the airbag, gas inside escapes through a small hole. This operation reduces the injury level to the passenger's head. First, the active vent instantly deploys the airbag, inflating it at high pressure, and after deployment slowly releases gas from the upper airbag. Tether Cutter Operating Principle: When an electrical signal is received, the tether cutter cuts the strap from the active vent to open the hole in the upper airbag. Active Vent Operating Range
  1. If the passenger in the passenger seat is not wearing a seat belt, the active vent deploys at the end of the crash regardless of crash severity.
  2. If the passenger is wearing a seat belt and the collision is severe enough to require the 2nd-stage passenger airbag deployment, the active vent is activated to optimize passenger protection.
  3. Low speed + belt-driven: main fire inflator + 2 stages and active vent discharge at the end of the collision.
Never attempt to measure the resistance of the airbag module (squib) circuit, even with the specified tester. Measuring the circuit resistance with a tester may cause accidental airbag deployment, which can result in serious injury.
