Coolant Replacement and Air Bleeding

  1. Make sure the engine and radiator are cold to the touch.
  2. Remove the radiator cap (A).
  3. Remove the under cover.
  4. Loosen the drain plug (A) and drain the coolant.
  5. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
  6. After draining the engine coolant, clean the reservoir tank.
  7. Fill the radiator with water through the radiator cap and tighten the cap.
  8. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Wait until the cooling fans turn on several times. Race the engine to help purge trapped air. Turn the engine off.
  9. Wait until the engine has cooled down.
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 8 until the drained water is clean.
  11. Slowly fill the mixture of coolant and water (55~60%) (except North America, Europe and China: 45~50%) through the radiator cap. Squeeze the upper/lower radiator hoses to easily bleed air.
  12. Start the engine and let it run until the coolant begins to circulate. When the cooling fan is operating and the coolant is circulating, add coolant through the radiator cap.
  13. Repeat step 11 until the cooling fan has turned on 3 to 5 times and sufficient air has been bled from the cooling system.
  14. Install the radiator cap and fill the coolant reservoir to the "MAX" (or "F") line.
  15. Run the vehicle at idle until the cooling fan has cycled 2–3 times.
  16. Stop the engine and wait for the coolant to cool down.
  17. Repeat steps 10 to 15 until the coolant level stops dropping, then bleed air from the cooling system.Coolant capacity: M/T: 5.8 L (1.53 US gal, 6.12 U.S. qt, 5.01 Imp. qt). A/T: 5.7 L (1.50 US gal, 6.02 U.S. qt, 5.01 Imp. qt)
