Immobilizer system (if equipped)'

~2min read
Sistema immobilizzatore

The vehicle is equipped with an electronic engine immobilizer system that reduces the risk of unauthorized use.

The immobilizer system consists of a small transponder built into the ignition key and some electronic devices located inside the vehicle. When the immobilizer system is present, each time the key is inserted into the ignition switch to start the engine, the system checks and determines whether the key is enabled or not.

If the key is recognized as enabled, the engine starts.

If the key is recognized as not enabled, the engine does not start.

To activate the immobilizer system: Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. The immobilizer system activates automatically. If you do not have an ignition key enabled for the vehicle, the engine will not start.

To deactivate the immobilizer system: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position.

WARNING To avoid the risk of vehicle theft, do not leave spare keys in the vehicle. The immobilizer password (secret code) is provided only to the vehicle owner and must therefore be kept in a safe place. Do not leave this code in the vehicle.

NOTE When starting the engine, there must be no other immobilizer keys near the ignition key. Otherwise the engine may not start or may stall immediately after starting. Keep the keys separated when they are delivered with the new vehicle.

CAUTION Do not place metallic objects near the key or the ignition switch. The engine may not start because the signal transmitted by the transponder is interrupted by metallic objects.

NOTE If additional keys are needed or if any are lost, contact an authorized Kia dealer.

CAUTION The transponder in the ignition key is an important part of the immobilizer system. Although it is designed to operate trouble-free for years, handle it with care and avoid exposing it to moisture and static electricity. Proper operation of the immobilizer system could be compromised. CAUTION Do not modify, tamper with or attempt to adjust the immobilizer system, as its proper operation could be compromised and only an authorized Kia dealer can restore it.

Malfunctions due to tampering, attempted adjustments or modifications of the immobilizer system are not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
