Opening the Tailgate

  • The liftgate locks or unlocks when all doors are locked or unlocked with the transmitter (or Smart Key) or the central door lock switch.
  • If the liftgate is unlocked, it can be opened by pressing the handle and lifting it up.
  • When all doors are locked, the liftgate unlock button on the electronic key only unlocks the liftgate when pressed for more than 1 second. Once the liftgate is opened and then closed, it locks automatically.

✽ NOTICE

In cold and humid climates, the liftgate lock and liftgate mechanisms may not operate properly due to freezing conditions.

WARNING

The tailgate swings upward. Make sure there are no objects or people near the rear of the vehicle when opening the liftgate.

WARNING - Liftgate Gas Struts

Make sure the liftgate is closed before driving the vehicle. The liftgate gas struts and attached equipment may be damaged if the liftgate is not closed before driving.
