High Beam Assist (HBA) System

High Beam Assist is a system that automatically controls headlight range (switches between high and low beam) depending on the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.
Operating Conditions
1. Set the light switch to the AUTO position.
2. Turn on the high beams by pushing the lever away from you.
3. High Beam Assist (
) indicator will illuminate.
4. The High Beam Assist activates when vehicle speed exceeds 40 km/h.
5. Details of operating the light switch while high beam is on are described below.
1. If the Highlight Beam Assist lever is pushed away, the Highlight Beam Assist system turns off and high beams stay on continuously.
2. If the light switch lever is pulled toward you when the high beams are off, the high beams turn on without turning off the Highlight Beam Assist system. (When you release the lever, it returns to the neutral position and the high beams turn off.)
3. If the light switch lever is pulled toward you when the Highlight Beam Assist high beams are on, the low beams turn on and the high beams turn off.
4. If the light switch is turned from the AUTO position to the headlight ( ) position, the Highlight Beam Assist system turns off and the low beams stay on continuously.
While the Highlight Beam Assist system is operating, the high beams switch to low beams under the following conditions.
- When an oncoming vehicle's headlights are detected.
- When a preceding vehicle's taillights are detected.
- When a bicycle's or motorcycle's headlights/taillights are detected.
- When the surroundings are bright enough that high beams are not needed.
- When street lights or other lights are detected.
- When the light switch is not in the AUTO position.
- When the Highlight Beam Assist system is turned off.
- When vehicle speed is below 30 km/h.
Warning Light and Message
If the Highlight Beam Assist (HBA) system does not operate properly, a warning message ("Check High Beam Assist") appears and the HBA indicator light illuminates for several seconds. After the message disappears, the main warning light (
) will illuminate.
Have the system checked at a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
CAUTION
The driver should be careful in the following situations, as the system may not operate properly under the following conditions.
- When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is weak
- When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to a damaged lamp or because it is hidden from view, etc.
- When the lamp of an oncoming or preceding vehicle is covered with dust, snow or water.
- When the vehicle's headlights are off but the fog lights are on, etc. - When external conditions interfere
- When there are lights similar in shape to vehicle lights.
- If the headlight is not repaired or replaced by an authorized dealer.
- When the headlight aim is not properly adjusted.
- When driving on narrow, winding, bumpy, uphill or downhill roads.
- When only part of the preceding vehicle is visible at an intersection or in a curve.
- When there are traffic lights, reflective signs, flashing signs or mirrors ahead.
- When there are temporary reflectors or flashing lights ahead (construction site).
- When road conditions are poor, such as wet, icy or snow-covered roads.
- When a vehicle suddenly appears from around a curve.
- When the vehicle tilts due to a flat tire or when towing.
- When the LKA (Lane Keeping Assist) system malfunction indicator (yellow) (if equipped) illuminates, etc. - When forward visibility is poor
- When the lamp of an oncoming or preceding vehicle is covered with dust, snow or water.
- When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to exhaust gas, smoke, fog, snow, etc.
- When the windshield is blocked by foreign objects.
- When visibility is poor due to fog, heavy rain or snow, etc.
- Do not disassemble the front view camera for window tinting or attach any kind of covering or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, have the system checked at a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner to have the system calibrated if necessary.
- When replacing or reinstalling the windshield or front view camera, have the system checked at a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
- Be careful not to let water get into the High Beam Assist control unit, and do not remove it, or damage the related parts of the Highlight Beam Assist system.
- Do not place light-reflecting objects such as mirrors or white paper on the dashboard. The system may not operate when sunlight is reflected.
- The Highlight Beam Assist system may sometimes not operate due to system limitations. The system is intended for your convenience only. The driver is responsible for safe driving, and always check road conditions for your safety.
