System Setting and Activation
System Settings
The driver can activate FCA by turning the Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position and selecting:
"User Settings, Driver Assistance, Forward, Safety"
- If you select "Active Assist", the FCA system is activated. FCA provides warning messages and warning sounds according to collision risk levels. It also controls the brakes according to the collision risk level.
- If you select "Warning Only", the FCA system is activated and provides only warning sounds according to collision risk levels. You must control the brakes directly because the FCA system does not control the brakes.
- If you select "Off", the FCA system is deactivated.
The warning light illuminates on the LCD display when you cancel the FCA system.
The driver can check the FCA ON/OFF status on the LCD display. In addition, the warning light illuminates when ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is turned off. If the warning light remains illuminated while FCA is activated, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.
The driver can select the timing of the initial forward collision warning on the LCD display. Go to "User Settings, Driver Assistance, Warning Timing, Normal/Late".
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) initial warning timing options are as follows:
- Normal:
When this condition is selected, the forward collision warning activates at the normal distance. This setting allows you to set the nominal distance between the vehicle and the vehicle ahead before the initial warning appears.
- Late:
When this option is selected, the initial forward collision warning is activated later than normal. This setting reduces the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead, pedestrian, or cyclist before the initial warning appears. Select "Late" in light traffic and at low driving speeds.
If the vehicle ahead accelerates, the driver may notice the warning earlier, even if the Late option is selected.
NOTICE
If you change the warning timing, the warning timing of other systems may change as well. Always check the warning timing before changing it.
Activation Conditions
FCA is ready to be activated when Active Assist or Warning Only is selected under Forward Safety on the LCD display, and when the following prerequisites are met.
- ESC is activated.
- Vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h. (However, FCA is activated at certain vehicle speeds.)
- When a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist ahead is recognized. (However, FCA is not activated depending on the condition of the forward systems and vehicle systems, and only notices certain warnings.)
- FCA does not operate properly or provides only warning sounds according to the driving or vehicle condition.
- If Warning Only is selected under Forward Safety, FCA provides only warning sounds according to collision risk levels.
NOTICE
FCA may not operate properly depending on the forward situation, the direction of a pedestrian or cyclist (if equipped), and vehicle speed.
WARNING
- FCA is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. The driver can deactivate FCA by changing the system setting on the LCD display.
- FCA is automatically deactivated when ESC is turned off. When ESC is turned off, FCA cannot be activated on the LCD display. The FCA indicator light will illuminate, but this does not indicate a system malfunction.
- Turn FCA on or off using the steering wheel switches after stopping the vehicle in a safe place for your safety.
