Ignition switch

~3min read

Engine start button positions

The system only works when the driver is inside the vehicle or within the operating range and carries the key.

Each time the engine start button is pressed, the ignition switch position changes in the following order: off, ACC and ON. If the engine start button is pressed again from the ON position, the ignition switch is turned off.

NOTE

  • The engine starts when the engine start button is pressed while depressing the clutch pedal (manual transmission) or the brake pedal (automatic transmission). To change the ignition switch position, press the engine start button without depressing the pedal.
  • Do not leave the ignition switch in ON when the engine is not running, as this may drain the battery. If the ignition switch is left in ACC (on automatic transmission vehicles, the selector lever is in P range and the ignition switch is in ACC), the ignition switch is automatically turned off after 25 minutes.

Off

Power to the electrical devices is cut off, and the engine start button indicator (amber) also goes off.

WARNING

Before leaving the driver's seat, always turn off the ignition switch, apply the parking brake and make sure the selector lever is in P (automatic transmission) or in 1 or R (manual transmission):

It is dangerous to leave the driver's seat without turning off the ignition switch, applying the parking brake and placing the selector lever in P (automatic transmission) or in first gear or R (manual transmission). The vehicle may move unexpectedly and cause an accident.

In addition, if the vehicle is left unattended even for a short time, it is important to turn off the ignition switch. If the ignition switch is in another position, some vehicle safety systems will be disabled and the battery will discharge.

ACC (Accessory)

Some electrical accessories will operate and the indicator (amber) comes on.

NOTE

The keyless entry system does not work when the engine start button is in ACC, and the doors cannot be locked/unlocked, even if they have been locked manually.

ON

This is the normal position when the engine is running after starting. The indicator (amber) goes off. (The indicator (amber) comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON and the engine is not running.) Some warning lights/indicators must be checked before starting the engine (page 4-24).

NOTE

When the engine start button is set to ON, the sound of the fuel pump operating near the fuel tank can be heard. This does not indicate a problem.
