Electric Cooling Fan
GENERAL INFORMATION
On all fuel-injected engines, the fan is switched on by the engine control unit based on the signal from the coolant temperature sensor, which is screwed into the intake manifold (on the timing cover side). On vehicles with carbureted engines, the fan is switched on when the thermoswitch, screwed into the thermostat cover, closes. On vehicles with air conditioning and/or automatic transmission, two fans are fitted.Only the simplest check may be performed independently. Check
PROCEDURE
1. Warm up the engine and run it at idle.
2. The fan should switch on within no more than 2 minutes (the temperature gauge needle should be at the edge of the red zone).
3. If not, stop the engine and disconnect the fan connector.
4. If the fan does not run when 12 V is applied directly to the connector terminals, the electric motor is faulty.
5. If the fan runs when voltage is applied directly, the wiring, control unit or thermoswitch is faulty (for the check procedure see subsection 4.6.1).
6. All other checks must be performed at an automotive service center.
Removal
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Disconnect the connector from the electric motor.

3. Remove the screws, lift out the fan assembly together with the shroud.
Installation: Installation is performed in the reverse order.
