Emergency brake assist

~1min read

This system supplements the ABS and helps shorten the braking distance.

Operating principle

The system detects a situation requiring emergency braking. In such a case, maximum braking assistance is applied immediately and ABS regulation can be activated.

ABS operation during braking is maintained until the brake pedal is released.

Hazard warning lights come on

These lights may come on during heavy braking, depending on the vehicle version.

Brake anticipation

Depending on the vehicle version, if the accelerator pedal is released quickly, the system anticipates braking in order to reduce braking distance.

When using cruise control:

  • when using the accelerator pedal, the system may activate when the pedal is released;
  • if the accelerator pedal is not used, the system will not activate.

Malfunctions

When the system detects a malfunction, the message "CHECK BRAKING SYSTEM" appears on the instrument panel and the warning lamp lights up..

This function provides additional assistance in critical situations, allowing the vehicle's behaviour to be adapted to specific driving conditions. However, it does not replace the driver.

Their operation does not increase the capabilities of the vehicle and should not encourage the driver to drive faster. During manoeuvres, the systems never replace the driver, who must remain alert and drive responsibly (the driver should always be prepared for sudden events that may occur while driving).
