The following tips will help you carry out a quick, temporary repair. For safety, consult a Brand Representative as soon as possible.
Using the RENAULT card |
POSSIBLE CAUSES |
WHAT TO DO |
| The RENAULT card does not work to unlock or lock the doors. | Card battery worn out. | Replace the battery. You can still lock/unlock and start your vehicle (refer to the "Locking, unlocking the openings" sections in chapter 1 and "Starting, switching off the engine" in chapter 2). |
| Use of devices operating on the same frequency as the card (mobile phone, etc.). | Stop using the devices or use the key built into the card (refer to the "Locking, unlocking the openings" section in chapter 1). | |
| Vehicle located in an area with strong electromagnetic radiation. Vehicle battery flat. |
Use the key built into the card (refer to the "Locking, unlocking the openings" section in chapter 1).
| The vehicle is running. | With the engine running, locking/unlocking with the card is disabled. Switch off the ignition. | |
| The instrument panel warning lights are dim or do not come on, and the starter motor does not turn. | Battery terminals loose, disconnected or corroded. | Tighten, reconnect or clean them if corroded. |
| Battery discharged or faulty. | Connect another battery to the faulty battery. Refer to the "Battery: troubleshooting" section in chapter 5 or replace the battery if necessary. Do not push the vehicle if the steering column is locked. |
|
| Faulty circuit. | Consult a Renault dealer. | |
| The engine will not start. | Starting conditions not met. | Refer to the "Starting, switching off the engine" section in chapter 2. |
| The RENAULT "hands-free" card does not work. | Insert the card into the card reader to start. Refer to the "Starting, switching off the engine" section in chapter 2. |
|
| The engine will not switch off. | Card not detected. | Insert the card into the card reader. |
| Electronic fault. | Press the start button five times quickly. The engine may restart when the clutch pedal is pressed if the Stop & Start function is activated. |
|
| The steering column remains locked. | Steering wheel locked. | Turn the steering wheel while pressing the engine start/stop button (refer to the "Starting, switching off the engine" section in chapter 2). |
| Faulty circuit. | Consult a Renault dealer. |
On the road |
POSSIBLE CAUSES |
WHAT TO DO |
|
| Vibrations. | Tyres under-inflated, unbalanced or damaged. | Check the tyre pressures; if this is not the cause, have their condition checked by a brand representative. | |
| White smoke from the exhaust. | Diesel version: this is not necessarily a fault; the smoke comes from regeneration of the particulate filter. | Refer to the "Diesel version specifics" section in chapter 2. | |
| Smoke from under the bonnet. | Short circuit or leak in the cooling system. | Stop, switch off the ignition, move away from the vehicle and call a brand representative. | |
| The oil pressure warning light comes on: | |||
| when cornering or braking | The level is too low. | Top up the engine oil (refer to the "Engine oil level: topping up, filling" section in chapter 4). | |
| takes a long time to go out or stays on when accelerating | Low oil pressure. | Stop and call a Brand Representative. | |
| The steering becomes stiff. | Power steering overheating | Consult a Renault dealer | |
The engine is overheating. The coolant temperature gauge is in the warning zone and the warning light lights up. | Cooling fan fault. | Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine and call a Brand Representative.
| Coolant leaks | Check the coolant reservoir: it must contain coolant. If it is empty, consult a brand representative as soon as possible. | ||
| Bubbling in the coolant reservoir. | Mechanical fault: cylinder head gasket damaged. | Switch off the engine. Contact a Brand Representative. |
|
Radiator : If coolant is significantly low, never top up with cold coolant while the engine is very hot. After any work on the vehicle requiring the cooling system to be drained, even partially, it must be refilled with a new, correctly mixed solution. We remind you that it is essential to use only a product approved by our technical departments.
Electrical equipment |
POSSIBLE CAUSES |
WHAT TO DO |
| The windscreen wiper does not work. | Wiper blades stuck. | Free the wiper blades before using the wiper. |
| Faulty electrical circuit. | Consult a Renault dealer. | |
| Fuse damaged. | Replace the fuse, refer to the "Fuses" section. | |
| The windscreen wiper will not stop. | Faulty electrical controls. | Consult a Renault dealer. |
| Indicators flash faster than normal. | Bulb blown. | Refer to the "Front headlights: replacing bulbs" or "Rear and side lights: replacing bulbs" sections in chapter 5. |
| The indicator lights no longer work. | Faulty electrical circuit or control. | Consult a Renault dealer. |
| Fuse damaged. | Replace the fuse, refer to the "Fuses" section. | |
| The headlights do not switch on or off. | Faulty electrical circuit or control. | Consult a Renault dealer. |
| Blown fuse | Replace the fuse, refer to the "Fuses" section. | |
| Condensation inside the lamps. | Condensation inside the lamps may be a normal occurrence caused by temperature changes. In this case, the marks will gradually disappear when the lights are used. |
|
| The front seatbelt warning light does not match the buckled state of the seatbelts. | An object is wedged between the floor and the seat and is interfering with the sensor. | Remove any objects from under the front seats. |
