General Information
All models with manual transmissions are equipped with a 5-speed transmission bolted to the left side of the engine. All transmission types are basically the same and differ only in the shift mechanism design, gear ratios and housing design for mating with different engines.
Engine crankshaft torque is transmitted through the clutch to the transmission input shaft, which has splines for engagement with the clutch disc. The input shaft is located parallel to the output shaft, and their gears are in constant mesh. Gears are engaged by moving the sliding gear collars with synchronizers located on the output shaft, which connect the required gear to the output shaft. The 5th gear is located in an additional module at the end of the transmission.
Reverse gear is engaged by inserting the idler gear between the two gears rigidly fixed to the input and output shafts.
All forward gears have helical teeth to reduce noise and improve wear resistance.
The differential is located in the main transmission case. The inner ends of the axle shafts (drive shafts) are connected directly to the differential.
Gear shifting is performed by the shift lever through two cables.
